By I agree that there are very valid arguments for each. I personally think that craft is a form of art and that there are different levels of self-awareness that a person can reach. I am also convinced that there are many people who are not really aware of the difference between craft and art, and I find myself nodding my head because I am one of those people.
I’m not sure if I’m on the same page with them or not, but I suppose I think art is craft that you make with your hands and it doesn’t require a lot of intellectual acrobatics.
The difference is clear. Craft relies on you creating a visual representation of something in your own mind. Art, on the other hand, is a way of creating something that has no clear idea of what it is you are trying to do. Art is something that you are creating, and that is a clear, distinct thing. Craft is something you are creating through your hands.
Art is something that you create by using your hands and, by doing so, that thing becomes something that we can see, touch, hear, feel. Craft takes place in a different realm entirely, so it doesn’t have as many visual cues, but it is still something that is there in the process of making it.
Craft versus art is somewhat of an imprecision issue. Craft is what you do with your hands, and art is what you do with your eyes. So if your hands are doing something, you can easily label them as craft, and you can easily label something that you see as art. But that is just a matter of semantics. If you are making a beautiful object, then your eyes are definitely going to be on that object.
Craft and art are different things. Craft is not art. Art is not craft. Some people do art for art’s sake, and others do art because they love making art. A lot of people see a piece of art, think, “I can’t believe it looks like that,” and then decide that they should do it because it looks cool.
That does not make it a bad thing to have a piece of art. A lot of people try to be the best artist they can be, and that tends to be a really good thing. Craft is different. It is not for everyone. Craft is an attitude. A person that is crafty tends to try to do things differently than the rest of the world. Craft is about what feels right for a particular person.
To learn about art, you have to come to the point in the artist’s life that they are either no longer interested in doing it or are no longer capable of doing it. If you can’t make a good piece of art, then you cannot learn anything about it. Craft is a natural thing that can flow into your life through your own work. It’s one of those things that is easy to miss, but it’s something that can be found in the art of others.
You could say that art is easy to miss, but art is usually not easy to find. The fact is that most artists are constantly on a quest to improve themselves. Like a chef, they are constantly pushing themselves to make sure their skills are up to par, and to make sure they are doing it consistently. When you see something great, you can’t help but notice that it is a natural part of the artist’s life. The same goes for crafts.
Craftsmanship is a skill that is learned. It is a skill that can be taught, just as a chef can be taught to cook. The problem is that most people do not have the time or inclination to learn how to properly craft. This is where art comes in. When you have the time to devote to learning the craft you will notice how much better you can do it.
