I think this is a valid observation. The average of the reader to have less than a few seconds of awareness of the message is an effective way of promoting it.
When I was in high school, I remember one of the teachers telling us that the best way to get the attention of the audience was to highlight a benefit to the audience, and then tell the audience that the benefit was for them.
Well, this is why I’m here at Google Code Jam this year. I’ll present a project that I’ve created to demonstrate this strategy. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just scroll down and take a look. It is called highlighting a benefit to the reader.
This is a technique that has been around for a long time. It is a way to make the reader think about the benefit that you’d like them to have. You can do this in many different ways. We often use it to emphasize a benefit to someone who has just purchased a product. For example, you could highlight what it is that you would like them to have, or you could highlight something that you would like them to do.
The more you highlight, the more they’ll see. If you highlight a benefit to the reader, you are telling them that they are about to receive something of value and you want to emphasize this. In other words, you want them to think about the benefits that you want them to have. You’re also emphasizing how great it is that they are about to receive this benefit.
But don’t highlight everything! Unless you want them to think that you are being nice and not just being a jerk. You could also highlight something that youre not sure about, but want them to know you are not being a jerk.
In a lot of online marketing, it is pretty common to show people things that are not necessarily beneficial to them, but you want them to know that you care about what youre saying and that it is helping them. It is also common to point out a particular piece of information without highlighting the benefit of this information. In the case of the Deathloop trailer, it is clear that Arkane is giving people something that will benefit them while still being honest about what they are getting.
You can think of it as an informational benefit. This is because when people read a promotional piece, they are not going to read a bunch of empty lines. They are going to read the words that you actually use to make your point. They are going to read the purpose behind what you are saying.
Not to be mean, but I think it is misleading to have a banner at the top of a message that says, “The best way to help Arkane is to support the game.” Just because you have a banner, it doesn’t mean that the banner itself is going to do the work. It’s possible that you are going to get the attention you are hoping for, but it is also possible that you are going to get lost in the message.
I like that you brought up the message. I think there’s a lot of value in the words you choose to highlight the benefit of the reader. That said, you never know what people are going to think, so you need to make sure your message is clear.
