By I have always been a fan of slam poets. I love how their poems take on a life of their own, and how they write about their lives in a way that allows us to empathize with them. This poem is my attempt at writing a slam poem.
I’ve never written a poem before, so I’m not sure what I should say. I feel like I should either say I’m a writer or I’m a slam poet, but not both. I know that I should probably say I’m a writer, but it sounds silly. I’ll just say I want to be a slam poet. I don’t know if that’s actually a strong enough statement or just an excuse to say I’m a poet.

A poem can be a way to express something in such a way that someone feels more connected to it and maybe even understood.
