By I have a confession to make. I am a terrible reader. I usually read only three or four books per year. When I do read, I read my favorite authors or choose from my own personal favorites. I also read what I consider to be the worst books on the market. I know, this is not to say I will never read any of these books again, but I feel they are no longer worth reading because they lack my favorite aspects.
My favorite authors, of course, are Ayn Rand, John Grisham, and John Rechy and that’s not including my own favorite authors, like Charles Dickens, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Herman Melville. In fact, I usually choose authors that I know will make me have an impact on whatever I read about. When I read a book, I want to feel that I have the power to make a difference.
Killing Eve is an example of such a book, and I think it’s a shame that it’s being sold as a story. I feel the same way about Eve books. They seem to be all about killing women and destroying the world. I don’t think that’s what the book is about at all. I think it’s about Eve, her family, her friends, and her lover/husband.
This is actually an issue where I think most people would agree. The average Eve books are written to make a point, usually about something that is very personal. Whether that is the victim of a violent crime, someone being violent toward their own family, or some other personal issue, the reader comes away from these books with the impression that the author is the judge, jury, and executioner. Eve books are meant to tell stories about the world that you will not be able to do anything about.
If killing is an issue, of course it is going to be an issue. But to think that Eve books are an excuse for a bad author to write bad books is absurd. They are written so that the reader will not be able to stop reading. It’s all about the way the story is told, how the characters interact, how the moral lessons are presented, how the characters move from one place to the next, and a whole lot more.
In the past Eve books have had many authors who are not actually that bad, but they were not good writers. The book I’m talking about was written by C. J. Cherryh (who you may know from his writing for the television show “The Walking Dead”), and is the first book of his “Mortal Instruments” series. The other two are “The Devil in the Dark” by John Christopher, and “The Book of Eli” by Stephen King.
I’ve read all of these books and I’ve never seen a murder scene that was anything less than incredible. They are also not bad books. They are just bad writers. The series has been a huge success for a while, but the first book is a huge disappointment. The second is also a disappointment, but the third is a major disappointment. The fourth is still a disappointment, but the fifth is actually pretty good.
Ive read The Devil in the Dark and I thought it was a pretty decent book. I also thought I HAD to read the books by King. When you have a book like that and youre not a fan of the genre, then there’s not much to say. Ive also seen a few reviews that say that Ive just seen too much of it in my head. Ive seen a lot, but Ive never seen anything that was as good as it is.
There are many reasons to love Killing Eve and the first few books in the series are very good. I don’t think Ive ever read a book that has been as good as The Girl on the Train. As for the books after that, Ive only read a couple. Killing Eve is definitely a book one needs to read.
Ive always been a fan of the books in The Girl on The Train. Theres not much else to say.
