By The non-linear narrative is one of the most common things that I hear about from people. People talk about how their lives have been transformed after they read a book, watched a movie, or listened to a podcast. This is what made me realize a whole new form of storytelling is possible. If we can create more non-linear narratives, then it might be a good idea for us to do that.
The term non-linear narrative comes from the fact that the story is told in chapters. However, it’s also possible to tell a novel in different ways. I have a great example of a non-linear narrative that I find really compelling: The Hunger Games. In it, we’re introduced to Katniss Everdeen, who is introduced to the Capitol and the Capitol’s history.
The Hunger Games is also a non-linear narrative, but it is told in linear chapters. Katniss is introduced to the Capitol in the first chapter, then she is introduced to the world in the second chapter, and then we are told that she is going to go to the Capitol and kill them, the Capitol’s people.
This is a non-linear narrative because it is told in linear chapters.

There are a couple of elements to this non-linear narrative that are similar to linear narratives. First, there’s a story-line that never stops moving forward. There’s a character, a main character, always trying to do something, and the point is never where we thought it was going to be. Second, there are different routes to the same destination.
To kill the Capitol people. In the non-linear narrative, the Capitol people are the Capitol, but Katniss goes to take out the Capitol people. There’s a point where Katniss is supposed to kill the Capitol people, but it never happens. She goes to the Capitol to kill the Capitol people, but as with linear narratives, it never happens.
In non-linear narratives, it is a point at which something happens, but it is not the end. It is not, “I’m going to kill the Capitol people.” It is not, “I’m going to kill the Capitol people in general.” It is not, “I’m going to kill the Capitol people in this way.
In The Hunger Games, the Capitol is a place that does not have a point towards the end of the story. It is a place that is an entirely different world with a different time and location from the rest of the games. It is a place that has never existed until it is created by Katniss.
