By When I was in high school, I had no idea what a plain black shirt meant. No one in high school had a simple black shirt. In fact, the only black shirt in high school was my father’s. I had no idea what a basic black shirt meant. Now I’m a mom of two, my black shirt is my one piece of clothing that I could be seen in from the street or from the grocery store and it’s a staple in my closet.
I don’t know what black shirt means, but I know that it means that I love my black shirt. I love it because I know that I can wear my black shirt to work and not worry about it being seen. I dress in my black shirt to work because the only shirt that I have that is black is my black shirt.
That’s a great little analogy, which I totally agree with. Black is a great color because it can be worn to work and not be noticed. To be honest though, my black shirt is the only black shirt that I have and I will be in the market for a new one any day now.
I think most people probably think of black as a color that is meant to be worn to work (as opposed to being something you can put on and not be seen) and so they associate it with black shirts. This is true, but I think it’s also a bit misleading. Black is actually a color that can be worn to work with a simple shirt and it’s also a color that people associate with black shoes.
Yeah, I agree, sometimes we get confused between black and black. But I think when we think of black as a color it’s more of a function of the way that black is used in art. So I think the fact is, in most of the time, you can wear black. As a function, yes, but as a color I think black is actually a bit more versatile.
That’s my two cents. I think black is a versatile color and can be worn to work, but I think in the case of shirts, I think it should be worn with a simple black blazer or some black pants.
