By The story is shocking & it is an epidemic on a national level. A recent article in USA Today about the issue showed that over 40,000 people have committed suicide in the last 5 years, and the average age of those who have committed suicide is 21. When you consider that this is a young population, its not a surprise to learn that it is a public health issue.
What I find disturbing is the fact that there is no accountability. Those who commit suicide are often not held accountable for their actions and the amount of money they took from their employer. At least on the surface I would say there is no connection between the two. Maybe it would be better if the employees of certain companies were held responsible for taking too many lives, but I don’t see why that should be the case.
In the meantime, one person who has taken his life is none other than the director of VCA, a public health agency with a very large budget and with the responsibility of taking these very important actions. I would like to see more accountability over here.
I don’t think I am the only one who feels that the way that the VA (yes, again, another company) is handled may have contributed to the recent employee suicides, but its not the only thing.
